La Lavande

LAVANDER AND LAVANDIN

All around Grignan you will be able to admire from the end of June to mid-July, the corded fields of lavandin blue-mauve which slip between two truffles, beside a vineyard, marrying with the brooms or the fields of sunflowers.

Often confused with the lavender, it is about an hybrid which results from the crossing the true lavender and the Aspic. The true lavender reproduces by seeds and cuttings, but the lavandin is sterile and reproduces only by cuttings. The true lavender can thus be cultivated or wild, whereas the lavandin does not meet in a wild state.

The lavandin grows at all altitudes (sea level to more than 900 m), the true lavender pushes only starting from 350-400 m approximately, never below.
